Negative profit orders report

Find the Shopify orders losing you money, worst first, with the reason for each one plus the total lost, the average loss, and your worst single order.

Updated July 8, 2026

This report lists every order that lost money, worst first, tags the reason each one lost money, and totals what they cost you.

What it shows

At the top, four summary cards: how many orders lost money, the total amount lost, the average loss per loss-making order, and the worst single order. Below that, a "Why these orders lost money" view shows the most common issues across the losses, grouped by main reason, and how those losses trend over time. The table lists each loss-making order with its date, revenue, net profit, margin, and a reason tag (for example cost over revenue, refunded, expensive shipping, or high fees). An order can carry more than one reason. Orders are shown worst first.

Filters and options

  • Date range picker.
  • Compare to the previous period, the previous year, or a custom period. With comparison on, the summary cards show how each number moved.
  • Schedule report: get it emailed to you on a schedule.
  • Export data: download it as a CSV (Business plan).
  • Pages through the orders when there is more than one page.

When to use it

Open this when profit looks lower than expected and you want the specific orders dragging it down. The reason tags tell you whether the cause was pricing, refunds, shipping, or fees, so you know what to fix first. To review every sale, not just the losers, open the all orders report; to see how each order's profit is worked out, read how profit is calculated; and if you suspect the losses come from inside the store, check the suspicious orders report.
