Inventory value report

See how much your inventory is worth right now, valued at cost and at retail, by location, with a trend over time.

Updated July 8, 2026

This report shows how much your inventory is worth right now, valued both at cost and at retail, broken down by location, with a trend over time. The numbers are "as of" today, and you can switch the date picker to a saved snapshot to see what your stock was worth on an earlier date, down to the per-product list.

What it shows

  • Compare locations (for stores with more than one location): a row per location with units, value at cost, value at retail, unrealized margin (retail value minus cost value), margin percent, and SKU count, plus an all-locations total.
  • Stock value over time: a trend built from regular snapshots, viewable at cost or at retail, with the change since the first snapshot.
  • Stock value by location (stores with more than one location, when viewing all locations): one line per location over time, so you can see how each location's stock value has moved. The busiest locations get their own line and the rest are grouped as "Other locations".
  • Per-location detail: a table for each location with the product, SKU, quantity, unit cost, stock value, and retail value, showing the 100 most valuable items per location. Export the CSV for the full list. This detail is also stored in each snapshot going forward, so a saved date shows the same per-product tables and export.

If some variants in stock have no cost set in Shopify, a banner notes that their stock value counts as 0 until you add a cost. You can fill those in from add product costs.

Filters and options

  • Location scope, for stores with more than one location.
  • Filters by vendor and product type.
  • Stock as of: switch between current stock and any saved snapshot date. A saved date shows that date's per-location totals, and snapshots taken once per-product history is on also show the full product list and export it; older snapshots show totals only. Vendor and product-type filters apply to current stock.
  • Snapshot settings: choose weekly or monthly snapshots and the day they run, or take one right now.
  • Schedule report: email it weekly, monthly, or quarterly with the data attached as a CSV, and choose which location it covers (scheduling by email needs the Pro plan).
  • Export data: download a CSV, available on every plan. Each location section also has its own export.

When to use it

Use it to see how much cash is locked in stock and whether that is climbing or falling over time, and to compare where your stock value sits across locations. To act on the stock that is dragging you down, pair it with the products not selling report and the inventory profit health report.
