Thresholds
Products that don't track quantity
Shopify reports products with Track quantity turned off as 0 in stock, so Easy Stock Buffer skips them by default instead of blocking them at checkout forever.
Updated July 27, 2026
Some products have Track quantity switched off in Shopify. Made-to-order items, digital downloads and services are the common ones. Shopify treats them as always available and reports their stock as 0.
That 0 is not a real count, and it used to cause a problem: a threshold of 1 or more would compare against it, decide the product was below the buffer, and block it at checkout every single time.
What the app does now
Easy Stock Buffer skips these products. The setting is Skip products that don't track quantity, under Settings, then Enforcement, and it is on to begin with. While it is on:
- Checkout is never blocked for them.
- They never trigger a low-stock alert.
- They are not counted as at risk on your dashboard.
- Auto-hide ignores them, so they are never hidden as sold out.
What you'll see
If you try to set a threshold on one, the app tells you it was skipped rather than saving something that cannot work. Pick a whole product with a mix of variants and it saves thresholds for the ones that track quantity and tells you how many it skipped.
If a product already had a threshold before you turned tracking off, the threshold is kept. It shows on the Thresholds page with a Doesn't track quantity badge and a dash instead of a stock number, because there is no real number to show. Turn Track quantity back on in Shopify and it starts working again on its own.
Turning the setting off
You can switch it off if you want the old behaviour, but be aware what it means: every product with Track quantity off counts as 0 in stock, so your thresholds will block them at checkout and auto-hide can hide them as sold out.
After you change the setting either way, the app works through your existing thresholds and rules in the background. Large stores can take a few minutes.
Turning tracking on or off later
Change Track quantity on a variant in Shopify and the app picks it up from that product edit. A product that was hidden because its untracked variants read as 0 is published again at the same time.
