Attendees and the guest list

Attendee details and custom questions

Choose when your Shopify event collects each guest's name and email, add your own questions, and see where the answers show up afterwards.

Updated September 24, 2026

Attendee details are the name, email and answers stored on every ticket. Each event either takes them from the Shopify order or asks for them in a popup at Add to cart, where you can also ask your own questions.

Choose when details are collected

Open the event, go to "Event settings" > "Attendee information" and pick "When to collect attendee info". The change saves at once.

  • "On add to cart - show a popup on the storefront": a popup asks for each ticket holder's details before the tickets go into the cart. New events start with this option.
  • "From order - use name and email from the Shopify order": no popup. Every ticket in the order gets the buyer's name, email and phone from the order, so a four-ticket order has four tickets in the same name. Your own questions are not asked.

The popup needs the app embed "Easy Tickets Popup" switched on in your theme, under Online Store > Themes > Customize > App embeds. When it is off, the tab shows a warning with an "Enable in theme editor" button. Without the embed, tickets sell with no details and take the buyer's details from the order.

Nothing is asked inside Shopify checkout. Tickets sold at the Shopify POS till use the name, email and phone that staff type there. The till does not ask your own questions.

What the shopper fills in

The popup "Attendee information" opens after Add to cart, with one section per ticket ("Attendee 1", "Attendee 2" and so on). A group ticket, such as a family ticket for 4, asks for each guest. Each section has "First name", "Last name", "Email", "Phone" if you added it, and then your questions. Required fields are marked with an asterisk.

On "Add to cart" the popup checks that required fields are filled ("This field is required") and that the built-in email looks right ("Enter a valid email"). The popup's look and wording are set in its designer, described in The attendee popup and its designer.

A name per ticket or one name for the booking

"Let shoppers book all tickets under one name" is on by default. With it on, a shopper buying two or more tickets sees an unticked box, "Book all tickets under one name". Ticking it hides the other sections. The first ticket's name, email, phone and answers are then copied to every ticket.

The shopper decides; you can only allow it or not. Turn the switch off when you need every guest's own name.

Built-in fields

The "Built-in fields" section lists "First name", "Last name" and "Email". They are always asked and always required.

Phone is off by default. "Add phone field" turns it on and makes it required. Switch "Required" off to make it optional, or click "Remove" to stop asking for it.

Add your own questions

  1. Open "Event settings" > "Attendee information".
  2. In "Built-in fields", click "Add field".
  3. Type a "Label", such as "Dietary needs".
  4. Pick a "Type".
  5. Switch "Required" on if every guest must answer.
  6. Click "Add field".

The question is added at the end and is asked once per ticket. On a recurring event, every date gets it. To change the order and width of questions in the popup, use "Customize" in the "Storefront popup" section.

Field types

  • "Text": a one-line text box.
  • "Email": an email box.
  • "Phone": a phone box.
  • "Select": the app has no place to enter the choices, so shoppers see a plain text box. For a fixed set of answers, write the choices into the label of a "Text" question.

The app checks the format of the built-in email only. Your own "Email" and "Phone" questions accept any text, and so does the built-in phone.

There is no checkbox, date, number, long text, file upload or consent type. Questions cannot depend on another answer or on the ticket type.

Required or optional

"Required" is off by default. The popup checks required questions before the tickets go into the cart. Nothing checks them again at checkout, so a ticket can still end up with an empty answer.

Change or remove a question

A question cannot be renamed or given a new type. To change one, remove it and add it again.

A question that already has answers cannot be removed. The app shows "This question can't be removed" with the number of answers collected. Switch "Required" off to stop making shoppers fill it in.

Editable or locked after purchase

Answers are locked for customers once they buy. On their online ticket page they can change their first name, last name and email, never their phone or answers. No setting lets customers edit answers.

You and your staff can change any answer at any time:

  • On the Attendees tab, with "Edit" in the ticket's menu. An emptied box deletes the answer. This editor does not apply your required or email rules.
  • In "Manage tickets" > "Edit ticket" on the Shopify order page, under "Custom attendee answers". This editor applies your required and email rules and takes up to 5,000 characters per answer.

Express checkout buttons are hidden

In popup mode the app hides the Buy it now, Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay buttons on event product pages, so nobody can skip the questions. The express buttons on your cart page are left as they are.

To give shoppers a quick way to pay, turn on "Show Buy now button" in the "Buy now button" section. The app's button opens the popup first and then goes straight to checkout. In "From order" mode nothing is hidden.

When answers are missing

A ticket can end up with the buyer's details or an empty answer when:

  • the event collects details "From order";
  • the "Easy Tickets Popup" app embed is off;
  • the shopper changes the quantity in the cart after the popup, so the extra tickets get the buyer's details;
  • the popup was replaced with your own HTML ("Edit code"), which asks only for the first ticket.

Fill in what is missing with "Edit" on the Attendees tab.

On recurring events with a date picker, answers typed before 2 September 2026 were lost at checkout. The app copies those answers back on its own from Shopify orders up to 60 days old. This recovery stops on 1 December 2026.

Where the answers show up

  • The Attendees table on the guest list, after you tick "Custom fields" in "Choose columns". Each question gets its own column.
  • The Attendees CSV, with one column per question after "Discount code".
  • The "Edit attendee" popup on the Attendees tab.
  • "Manage tickets" > "Edit ticket" on the Shopify order page, under "Custom attendee answers".

Answers do not appear on the ticket email, the PDF ticket, the online ticket page, the thank-you page or the door check-in screen. The transfer form, the claim page for bundle seats and the POS till do not ask your questions either.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ask a checkbox or dropdown question?

There is no checkbox, date, number or long-text type. The types are "Text", "Email", "Phone" and "Select". The app has no place to enter the choices of a "Select" question, so shoppers see a plain text box. Write the choices into the label of a "Text" question instead.

Are the answers printed on the ticket?

No. Answers show in the Attendees table, the Attendees CSV and "Manage tickets" on the Shopify order page. They are not on the ticket email, the PDF, the online ticket page or the door screen.

Can customers change their answers after buying?

No. On their ticket page customers can change only their first name, last name and email. You can change any answer with "Edit" on the Attendees tab.

Why do some tickets carry the buyer's name instead of the guest's?

Tickets take the buyer's details from the order in three cases. The event collects details "From order", the "Easy Tickets Popup" app embed is off, or the shopper raised the quantity in the cart after the popup. A shopper who ticks "Book all tickets under one name" also gets the same name on every ticket.
