How-to - profit

How to calculate your true net profit on Shopify

Short answer

To calculate your true net profit on Shopify, subtract every cost from revenue: product cost, payment fees, shipping, returns, taxes and ad spend. Easy Profit Calculator does this for each order automatically and shows profit-aware ROAS, so you can see which products and campaigns actually make money. The free plan covers up to 100 orders a month.

How it works

01

Import your orders

Install Easy Profit Calculator and it pulls in your Shopify orders, so profit is calculated from real sales rather than a spreadsheet.

02

Add your costs

Set product costs, payment fees by gateway and card type, shipping, returns and fixed costs. Each cost you add makes the profit number more exact.

03

Read profit per order

See net profit on every order, with each cost labelled exact or estimated and a data-quality score that flags where data is missing.

04

Check profit-aware ROAS

Compare ad spend against real margins with a break-even ROAS target, so you know which campaigns make money after costs, not just revenue.

What you get

  • Net profit per order after product, fee, shipping, return, tax and ad costs
  • Each cost labelled exact or estimated, with a data-quality score
  • Google Ads spend synced for profit-aware ROAS
  • A break-even ROAS target based on your real margins
  • A free plan for up to 100 orders a month

Revenue is not profit

A $100 order can still lose money. Once you take out the product cost, the payment fee, shipping, a share of returns, and the ad spend that won the sale, the profit left can be small or negative. Shopify shows you revenue and gross sales, but not this full picture.

Calculating net profit per order is what tells you which products and orders are actually worth having, instead of chasing top-line sales.

Profit-aware ROAS versus regular ROAS

Regular ROAS compares ad spend to revenue, which ignores what the product and fulfilment cost you. A 3x ROAS can lose money on a low-margin product and print money on a high-margin one.

Profit-aware ROAS uses your real margin to set a break-even target, so you scale the campaigns that make a profit. You can try the basic margin math first with the free profit margin calculator.
