How do I add tags like PFAS-free or Vegan to a product?

Tags are short words you want a shopper to see next to what a product is made of, like PFAS-free, Vegan, OEKO-TEX or Recycled. They are on the Pro plan.

They are your words, not ours

The app does not check a tag, ask for a document, or know what one means. A tag is your own statement about your own product, and you are the one answerable for it - so write only what you can stand behind. Nothing in the app calls a tag a certification, because nobody here has verified anything.

This is the opposite of the material names. Those come from a fixed EU list, and the app checks what you type against it before you can save - see only official EU fibre names. A tag has no list at all, so nothing is checked.

Steps

1. Open Products and select the product.
2. Find Tags shown to shoppers, the section under the materials. Nothing on this page folds shut, so it is already open.
3. Type a tag in Add a tag and press Enter, or select Add. Repeat for each one.
4. Select Save. One Save at the top of the page stores everything on it, and shoppers see the change straight away.

To remove one, select the x on the tag and save again.

What you should see

The tags appear on the product page under the materials, under a heading of their own. That heading reads Good to know until you put it in your own words under Tags heading in label settings, which you can do on any plan.

The Products list has a Tags column: it shows the first two and then a count, so you can tell at a glance which products carry any.

Three things to expect:

• A tag is never translated. If you sell in more than one language, the same tag shows in all of them exactly as you typed it. That is deliberate - inventing a translation for a claim you made is not something the app should decide for you. Only the heading above them changes language. There is more about languages in labels in more than one language.
• A tag is a few words, not a sentence. Each one is capped at 60 characters. If you need to explain something, use the care note instead.
• The same tag twice is refused. Capitals do not count as a difference, so Vegan and vegan are the same tag.

Nothing showing?

Check three things:

1. The product is on your store. A product still missing its materials is not, and tags alone will not put it there - see how your materials reach your product page.
2. Show tags is turned on in the Materials & Care block in your theme editor. That is the switch for the tags you add in this app, not Shopify's own product tags, and it is on by default.
3. Your plan is Pro. On Free the section is locked.

Adding tags to many products at once

The import file has a Tags column. Separate tags with a semicolon, like OEKO-TEX;Vegan. An empty cell leaves that product's tags alone rather than clearing them. A cell with something in it replaces the whole list rather than adding to it.

If you drop back to Free

Nothing you typed is deleted, and the tags are waiting in the app if you go back to Pro.

When they stop showing depends on the product. Free shows fewer products than Pro, so any product past that limit comes off your store within a few minutes of the downgrade, tags and all. A product that stays on your store keeps its tags on the page until the next time you save it, and they come off then.

They are not your Shopify product tags

Shopify has its own tags for organising your catalogue, used for collections and search. These are separate. Ours only ever appear on the product page under the materials, and changing one never touches the other.
