Care instructions

On a product, the How to look after it section covers five things: washing, bleaching, drying, ironing and professional care. Each one can be left as Not specified.

Filling them in

All five boxes are open on the product page from the start, under How to look after it. Pick from the ones you want to say something about and leave the rest on Not specified. Then Save, like the rest of the page.

Turning care off

There is no switch. Empty is off: five boxes on Not specified and an empty Anything else box means "this product has no care instructions". Clear them on a product that had care before and the care part comes off your product page the next time you save.

What you pick is what a shopper reads, word for word. The wording in the box is the wording that goes on your product page, and it is written again in each other language you have turned on.

Why you pick these from a list

These five are the standard care instructions used on clothing labels everywhere. Picking from a list rather than typing your own does two things for you:

• It writes itself in every language you sell in. Pick "Machine wash, max 30 °C" once and shoppers in each of your languages read it in theirs. Typed text would mean writing it again for every language.
• It stays the wording shoppers already recognise, which is the whole point of a care label.

Anything else

Under the five, there is a free box called Anything else. That is for what the list cannot say, like "Wash with similar colours" or "Reshape while damp". It shows as one line under the care instructions on your product page, so keep it short - it holds 200 characters.

It is your own words, so it is the one care field the app cannot translate for you. On Pro, where labels are written in more than one language, you get one Anything else box per language, each labelled with the language name. Leave one empty and shoppers reading in that language see the text from your store's own language instead.

That fallback is only safe here because care is voluntary. Materials work the opposite way: a missing translation stops the product going on your store rather than falling back.

They are optional

EU law requires what a product is made of. It does not require care instructions. A product with none is still fine. Most merchants add them because shoppers ask, not because they have to.

Words, not symbols

The app writes care instructions as plain sentences, like "Machine wash, max 30 °C" and "Do not tumble dry".

The washing symbols you see on clothing labels are registered trademarks. Using them commercially, including on a website, needs a licence from the organisation that owns them. Rather than put you in that position, the app writes what the symbol means. It also reads better for anyone who does not have the symbol chart memorised, which is most people.

Languages

Care instructions are written in the same language as the materials, and in every extra language you have turned on.
