Filling in what a product is made of

Open Products, pick a product, and fill in the What it is made of section. It is the first section on the page, because it is the part EU law asks for. Nothing on this page folds shut, so every box you can fill in is already in front of you.

Type into Material, pick a name from the list that opens, set the percentage, and use Add another material for each further one. Then Save at the top of the page. There is one Save for the whole product.

The rules the app checks

• Percentages have to add up to exactly 100. The running total under the rows stays red until they do.
• Each material can only appear once. Two lines of cotton have to be combined into one.
• Whole numbers or one decimal place. 99.5 is fine, 99.55 is not.
• Every name has to be one EU law allows. See why you can only pick certain materials for what to do when yours is not on the list.

Everything is checked as you type, and again when you save, so a total that does not reach 100 or a name we do not know cannot be saved by accident. Save stays greyed out until every line is right. The one deliberate way past it is Add anyway, the button beside the material box, which keeps your own wording and marks the product Not EU wording.

How it reads on your product page

A product made of one material shows as "100% wool". A product with several shows each one with its percentage, heaviest first, like "80% cotton, 20% polyester" - that ordering is required, and the app does it for you when you save.

Saving puts it on your store

There is no second step. A product whose materials are complete goes on its product page the moment you save, and the toast tells you so.

If something holds it back - the free limit, or a material with no name in one of your languages - the product page says which, at the top. See how your materials reach your product page.

The same materials on many products at once

A run of shirts all made of the same thing does not need opening one at a time.

1. Open Products and check the products you want.
2. Select Set materials in the bar along the bottom.
3. Fill in the materials the way you would on one product. Turn on Has non-textile parts from animals if they have a leather patch, horn buttons or a fur trim.
4. Select the button at the bottom of the window. It names how many you picked, like Set materials on 25.

The same materials are written to every product you checked, and they go on your store straight away. Whatever those products had before is replaced, so this is not a way to add one more material to a batch.

The message afterwards gives you both numbers: how many were saved, and how many are not showing yet and why, if the free limit or something else held some back.

Take off my store sits beside it for the other direction. There is no button for putting them back on, because saving is what does that.
