QR code ticket
Definition
A QR code ticket is an event ticket that carries a unique QR code, which staff scan at the door to check the attendee in. Each code is single-use once scanned, so it cannot be reused for duplicate entry. On Shopify, a ticketing app generates the QR ticket automatically when someone buys.
How QR check-in works
At the door, staff scan the QR code with a phone camera or a point-of-sale device. The system marks that attendee as arrived in real time, and flags the ticket if someone tries to scan it twice.
Because it runs from the buyer's order, there is no separate guest list to reconcile: the ticket and the attendee record are the same thing.
Why QR tickets beat a printed list
A printed list is slow to search and easy to double-count. QR tickets are instant to scan, prevent duplicate entry, and a good check-in tool works offline so a weak signal at the venue does not stop the queue.
