Getting started with Easy Image Organizer

Install Easy Image Organizer, find your way around the three tools, and make your first bulk image change in Shopify.

Updated May 20, 2026

This page walks the install + first-action flow.

Step 1 - Install from the Shopify App Store

Open the Easy Image Organizer listing and click Install. Approve the scopes when prompted:

  • Read and write products + media, so the app can read images and save changes.
  • Read collections, so the SEO editor can pull collection images.
  • Read Files, so the SEO editor can list every image in your store (not just product-attached ones).

There's no theme extension and no storefront-facing change.

Step 2 - Land on the Organizer

After install, the app opens to the Organizer tab. You'll see:

  • A search box at the top.
  • A filter panel (collapsed by default).
  • A paginated list of every active product in your store, 50 per page.
  • Each row: product title, status badge, and an image strip.

Step 3 - Get oriented: three main tabs

The left nav (or top tabs depending on width) has:

  • Organizer. Bulk reorder product images.
  • Find Duplicates. Perceptual duplicate scanner.
  • Image SEO. Bulk alt text + filename editor.

Plus a Plans tab to manage billing.

Step 4 - Make your first change

The lowest-risk way to get started is to reorder one product's images:

  1. Stay on the Organizer.
  2. Search for a product you know well.
  3. Hover over its image strip - drag handles appear.
  4. Drag an image to a new position.
  5. A "Unsaved" indicator appears on the row, and a sticky save bar appears at the bottom.
  6. Click Save all changes.

The change writes to Shopify. Open the product in Shopify admin to confirm.

You can also undo before saving by clicking the per-product Undo button.

Step 5 - Run the duplicate scanner

Switch to Find Duplicates and click Scan for duplicates. The scanner walks every product image in your store, computes a perceptual hash per image, and groups matches. Progress shows in real time. For 1k products expect ~30 seconds, for 10k expect a few minutes.

When the scan finishes, you'll see duplicate groups with thumbnails. Use the tabs All / Same product / Across products to filter. Delete duplicates by clicking the delete icon on the unwanted thumbnail and saving.

There's a 30-minute cooldown between full scans (to keep things polite to Shopify's APIs). Re-scan picks up new uploads.

Step 6 - Bulk-fix alt text

Switch to Image SEO and click Auto optimize all at the top of the page. The button:

  • Generates a filename based on the product title and image position.
  • Generates alt text in the format "Product Title - Image N".
  • Stages each change as "Unsaved" so you can review before saving.

Click Save all changes. Shopify updates every alt text + filename on the current page.

You can also edit one row at a time inline, or use the wand icon per row to auto-optimise just that image.

Step 7 - Know your plan caps

The free plan includes:

  • 100 product edits per month. A "product edit" is reorder, delete, or upload. Each one ticks the counter.
  • Unlimited alt text + filename edits.
  • Unlimited duplicate scanning.

When you approach the cap, an upgrade banner appears in the app. See Plans and pricing.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need any setup besides install?

No. After install, the app opens directly to the Organizer view with your products already listed. There's no configuration step, no API key, no theme block to add.

Will it scan my whole store on install?

No. The first scan only happens when you choose. The Organizer just lists products as you scroll/paginate. The duplicate scanner only runs when you click "Scan for duplicates". The SEO editor only loads images for the current view. Nothing happens to your store until you click a button.

Is my free quota burned just by browsing?

No. The Free plan's 100 edits/month counter only ticks when you actually save a product change (reorder, delete, upload). Alt text and filename edits are unlimited on the Free plan. Browsing, scanning for duplicates, and reading data are all free regardless of plan.
