Publishing to Shopify

How PackScene uploads approved AI model images to Shopify products, how image position works, and how to undo a publish.

Updated May 20, 2026

This page covers what happens when you click Publish All at the bottom of a Reviews run, what shows up on the Shopify product, and how to undo it if something goes wrong.

What "Publish All" does

When you click Publish All on a run:

  1. PackScene collects every approved image from the run (everything that wasn't marked "Don't use").
  2. For each approved image, PackScene uploads it as new media on the Shopify product the image was generated for.
  3. The image is placed at the position you set when creating the run (Before existing or After existing).
  4. The run state flips to accepted.

Nothing is deleted. Nothing is replaced. Your original packshots stay in place. AI images are added alongside.

Image position, in detail

You picked an image position when creating the run. Two options:

Before existing images

The first AI image becomes position 1. Your existing packshots get pushed down. If the AI run produced both a front and a back, those go to positions 1 and 2, and existing media starts at position 3.

This is the standard apparel store layout: model image first, packshot second, detail shots after. Customers scrolling the PDP gallery see the model hero first.

After existing images

The AI image appends to the end of the product's media list. If the product had four images already, the AI image becomes position 5.

This is useful when:

  • Your hero image is intentionally the packshot (clean studio look).
  • You want PDP scroll to go packshot → packshot → model.
  • You're testing PackScene against existing images and want to A/B in your own analytics.

You can always reorder later, in Shopify admin or via Easy Image Organizer.

What gets uploaded

PackScene uploads:

  • The finished 2000x2000 PNG/JPEG of the AI model image.
  • One image per (product, framing, side) combination that you approved.

It does not upload:

  • The intermediate 1024x1024 base.
  • The pre-upscaled version.
  • Anything you marked "Don't use".
  • Anything from a run you never clicked Publish on.

Alt text and filenames

PackScene uploads images with auto-generated metadata (filename derived from the product). If you want to polish alt text and filenames at scale across your store, use Easy Image Organizer's Image SEO tool to bulk-edit after publishing.

Library: see what PackScene has published

The Library page in PackScene shows every image the app has ever published, indexed by product. Use it as a history log:

  • Which products have AI images.
  • Which run they came from.
  • Whether you ever ran a back image, and what framing.

Library doesn't let you delete images from Shopify (deletion is a Shopify admin action), but it tells you where to look if you want to clean up.

How to undo a publish

PackScene doesn't have a one-click rollback because the data is now in Shopify, not in PackScene. To remove published AI images:

  1. Open the product in Shopify admin.
  2. Scroll to Media.
  3. Click the AI image and delete it.

If you published a large run and want to bulk-remove, use Easy Image Organizer - it can scan and remove images across hundreds of products in one pass.

Publishing again after a rerun

If you reran a product on the Reviews page after publishing, the rerun produces new images in PackScene's storage. To get those new images onto Shopify, click Publish All on the run again. PackScene uploads the new images as additional media on the product. If you want them to replace the old AI images, delete the old ones manually in Shopify admin.

What's next

Frequently asked questions

Does PackScene delete or replace my packshots?

No. PackScene only ever adds new media to a Shopify product. Your existing packshots stay exactly where they are. To remove an AI image, you'd have to delete it manually in Shopify admin (or use Easy Image Organizer for bulk deletion).

Can I change the position of an AI image after publishing?

Yes. Open the product in Shopify admin and drag the image to a new position, or use Easy Image Organizer to bulk-reorder across many products.

What happens if the same product is in multiple runs?

Each run uploads its approved images as new media. So if you publish the same product in two runs, you get two AI images on that product. PackScene doesn't dedupe across runs.

What if the publish fails halfway through?

The run will show a partial state. You can re-trigger publish on the same run from the run detail page - PackScene skips images that already uploaded successfully and retries the rest.
