Getting started
Getting started with PackScene
Install PackScene from the Shopify App Store, run your first AI model image generation, and publish the result to a Shopify product.
Updated May 20, 2026
This page walks you from "I just installed PackScene" to "I just published an AI model image to a Shopify product". It takes around five minutes.
Step 1 - Install from the Shopify App Store
Open the PackScene listing on the Shopify App Store and click Install. Approve the scopes when prompted. PackScene requests:
- Read products and collections, so it can list your catalog and read packshot URLs.
- Write products, so it can upload finished AI images as new media on the product.
There is no theme extension, no script tag, and no storefront change.
Step 2 - Open the Generate page
Once installed, PackScene opens to its home page. From the side nav, click Generate. You will see:
- A collection picker at the top.
- A list of products in the selected collection, each with their existing image strip.
Step 3 - Pick a collection and select packshots
Pick the collection you want to work on. PackScene loads the products inside.
For each product you want to generate model images for:
- Click the image you want to use as the front packshot. It gets a green border and a "FRONT" badge.
- Optional - click another image as the back packshot. It gets a "BACK" badge.
- To reset a product, click Undo under that product.
You can select multiple products in the same run. Each selected product becomes one generation job. See Selecting packshots for the rules around what counts as a good front and back.
Step 4 - Choose framing and gender
Above the product list, pick:
- Model gender - Male or Female. Pick whichever fits the collection's target customer.
- Framings - Full body, upper body, lower body. You can pick more than one. Each framing per product costs one credit.
These two choices apply to every product in this run. Keep them consistent within a collection so the storefront looks cohesive.
Step 5 - Choose image position
PackScene needs to know where to slot the new images into your existing product media when you publish. Pick one of:
- Before existing images - new images become position one and two (PackScene-first PDP).
- After existing images - new images go to the end of the media list.
You can change this per run, and you can also reorder images later in Shopify admin if needed.
Step 6 - Generate
Click Generate Selected. PackScene queues one job per image and starts working in the background. Each generation:
- Sends the packshot through the Gemini image step.
- Upscales the output to 2048x2048.
- Crops to a clean 2000x2000.
- Stores the result against the run as
pending→processing→completed.
If you selected a back packshot, PackScene generates the front image first, then feeds that into the back generation so the model stays consistent.
You can close the tab. Workers keep running. Come back any time.
Step 7 - Review the results
From the side nav, click Reviews. You'll see every run you've started, with its status (running, ready_for_review, accepted).
Click into a run. Each product appears with:
- Original packshot(s) on the left.
- PackScene-generated images on the right.
- Two actions per product: Don't use (mark images as not for publish) and Rerun (regenerate this product's images).
Approve everything you're happy with. Mark anything off-target as "Don't use". Rerun the ones that need another shot. See Reviewing images for the full review flow.
Step 8 - Publish
Once you're happy with the run, click Publish All. PackScene uploads every approved image to its Shopify product, at the position you set in step 5. The job runs in the background. When it's done, the run status flips to accepted and your storefront PDPs show the new images.
That's it. You can start another run immediately, or check Library to see every published image, indexed by product.
What to do next
- Read Best practices - the tips that actually move the needle.
- Read Plans and credits - what each tier includes and how regeneration credits work.
- Read Publishing to Shopify - more on image order and how to revert.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the first PackScene generation take?
For a single product with a front-only packshot, expect under a minute end-to-end. Generation runs the Gemini step, then upscales to 2000x2000, then stores the result. Batch runs queue per image and run in the background, so you can close the page and come back to a finished review queue.
Do I need to install anything in my theme?
No. PackScene is an embedded Shopify admin app, not a theme extension. There's nothing to add to your theme. The only Shopify scopes PackScene requests are read access to products and collections, and write access to products so it can upload finished media.
Can I try PackScene before paying?
Yes. Every new install gets four free credits, which is enough to generate four front images (or two products with front and back). Credits don't expire on the free plan. Paid plans add monthly credit allowances on top.
