How-to - product images
How to reorder product images in bulk on Shopify
Short answer
How it works
Select the products
Filter by vendor, collection, product type or tags, then select the products whose image order you want to change.
Set the order
Drag images into place on a single product, or use the bulk move to take the image at one position and move it to another across every selected product at once.
Save
A sticky save bar holds the change until you save, with undo, so you can review the new order before it goes live.
What you get
- Drag-and-drop reorder within a product
- Move an image from one position to another across every selected product
- Filter and select products by vendor, collection, type or tags
- Upload, replace or delete images inline while you reorder
- A sticky save bar with undo before you commit
Why the first image matters
Shopify uses the first image on a product as its featured image, so it is the one shown on collection pages, search results and social previews. If half your catalogue leads with a packaging shot and half with a lifestyle shot, the store looks inconsistent.
Reordering in bulk lets you set a rule like "lifestyle image first, then the flat-lay" and apply it across a whole collection in one pass.
Reordering across many products at once
The bulk move is the part Shopify does not do natively. Instead of opening each product and dragging, you move "position 3 to position 1" across every selected product at once, which is how you fix an entire catalogue quickly.
On the free plan you get 100 image edits a month for reordering, replacing and deleting; the Pro plan makes those edits unlimited. See the Easy Image Organizer docs for details.
